PJC Year-1 Syllabus

Syllabus PJC Year-1
This is the foundation of Vedic astrology where the teachings of the sage Parāśara are explained in scientific detail. The principles involved in each śloka must be understood to ensure a strong foundation. Dṛṣṭi (aspects) are all derived and are not random.

The highlight of this year is the initiation into the sacred mantra of Maharṣi Parāśara. Those who have attended the contact course have benefited by the initiation. Others can consider seeking a private audience for the initiation with the Jyotiṣa Guru.

The Inspiration

Brahma taught the Vedas and vedāñga (which includes Jyotiṣa) to his mind-born son Nārada. Some jyotiṣa teachings are available in the Nārada saṁhitā. In turn devarṣi Nārada passed this knowledge to Maharṣi Saunaka. Maharṣi Parāśara was the disciple of Maharṣi Saunaka and received the complete knowledge of the Vedas and vedāñga from his spiritual master in addition to substantial learning from his most illustrious grandfather Maharṣi Vasiṣṭha.
His magnum opus Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra is in the traditional form of dialogue with his śiṣya Maharṣi Maitreya wherein the humble disciple makes sincere queries and is taught the complete Horā śāstra.

Avatāra

Mahāṛṣi Parāśara speaks of the dasa avatāra at the beginning of the work Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra and dedicated a whole chapter titled avatārakathana adhyāyaḥ to the study of the incarnations (avatāra) of Viṣṇu. Of the list of eleven avatāra, Parāśara omits Balarāma as, strictly speaking, Balarāma is an incarnation of Vāsuki, the divine serpent guardian of Viṣṇu.

Riṣṭa Others

Riṣṭa is not just restricted to the native. It extends to mother, especially at the time of delivery, to siblings and parents and elders. Parashara teaches us various principles in the combinations to determine the evils for parents. Of particular interest is the durmantra combination in the previous lesson where the afflicted Moon in the 5th house can cause death of mother instead of the native because it is not in 1,7,3 or 9 houses. In the 5th house it is maraka (2H) from the 4th bhava showing the mother.
We learn three important principles
